The impressive graffiti was created after a respective competition announcement by the owner of the shipyards company ONEX, Mr. Panos Xenokostas. Dozens of teams from all over Greece responded to the invitation, claiming the project with remarkable proposals. Finally, the crewNs team won the competition, constituting from four young adults from Karditsa (Vangelis Koutsioumbas, Dimitris Tampakis, Costas Koukouletsos and Sofoklis Kontoulis), together with Angeliki Karamolegkou (who originates from Syros) that undertook the research and documentation.
The idea behind the decision to announce the graffiti competition was to form a strong landmark, a point of reference and a first “reception” for the island’s visitors, a “meeting” point with the most important phases of the island history. In addition, the vibrancy of the images and the colors also marks the rebirth of the shipyards.
