In a cordial atmosphere, the cutting of the Agiovasiliopita of our Association took place on Monday, January 6, 2025, in the 2nd Hall of the Sports Center of the Municipality of Syros, Ermoupolis “Dimitrios Vikelas”.
The cutting of the pie was blessed by His Eminence Metropolitan of Syros, Tinos, Andros, Kea, Milos, Mr. Dorotheos.
The event was honored with their presence by the Honorable Minister of Sports, Mr. Ioannis Vroutsis, the Mayor of Syros – Ermoupolis, Mr. Alexis Athanasiou, the great sponsor of the Phoenix, Mr. Panos Xenokostas, the representative of the Most Reverend Catholic Bishop, Mr. Petros, the Olympic gold medalist in taekwondo, Mr. Michalis Mouroutsos, the Olympic champion and world gold medalist in water polo, Ms. Alexandra Asimaki, representatives of the local government of the 1st and 2nd degree, local bodies, security forces, sports clubs of Syros, former Presidents of our Association, members, athletes, coaches, friends and supporters.
A special award was given to Mr. Panos Xenokostas, President and CEO of the ONEX Group. Mr. Xenokostas, the most important sponsor in the history of the Association, identified, through his great contribution, with the vision of Finikas from the first moment he was on our island and stands by our side until today, demonstrating in practice his social sensitivity and interest. Without his financial support, the revival of Finikas and our progress in the Volley League would not have been possible. We thank him warmly -once again- for his valuable contribution.
In his speech, the Cycladic Alternate Minister of Sports, Mr. Ioannis Vroutsis, referred, among other things, to the roadmap for the development of sports in our country and in particular in the Cyclades, as well as to his work to date at the Ministry of Sports, announcing together with the Mayor of Syros Ermoupolis, Mr. Alexis Athanasiou, the upgrade of the indoor Volleyball gym “D. Vikelas” with funding of €684,574 from the Ministry of Sports and implementation by the Municipality of Syros – Ermoupolis. This project fulfills the top request of the Syrian sports and volleyball fans for many years.
The event concluded with exchanges of wishes and treats for those in attendance.
