Minister Mr. Hatzidakis’s Tour of ONEX Shipyards in Syros

Syros, February 24, 2025

The “first stop” of the two-day visit of the Minister of National Economy & Finance and Vice President of ND, Mr. K. Hatzidakis, to Syros was the ONEX Shipyards in Neorio.

Specifically, in the presence of the President & CEO of ONEX, Mr. P. Xenokostas, Mr. K. Hatzidakis, accompanied by the Cycladic Deputy Minister of Sports, Mr. G. Vroutsis, and the Prefectural MPs, Mr. F. Fortom and M. Kafouros, held a tour of the Shipyards’ facilities and a working meeting.

“The restart of the Neorion Shipyards also sends a message of a comprehensive restart, not only of the Cyclades and the Shipbuilding Industry, but of the Greek Economy”, Mr. Hatzidakis underlined, among other things, in his statements. At the same time, he also focused on the message of constructive cooperation between employer and employee, who, regardless of any individual differences, have the progress of the Shipbuilding Industry as a common interest, emphasizing that “these two messages are important for our Economy, important for our Homeland, which can and will have a better future, if we continue on this path”.

His particular joy for the presence of Mr. Hatzidakis at the ONEX Shipyards facilities in Neorio, Syros, as well as for the conclusions of the experienced Minister regarding the substantial observance and implementation of the commitments undertaken by the ONEX Group since 2019, with the restart of the Syros and Elefsina Shipyards, expressed by Mr. P. Xenokostas. “We commit to continue on the same path, honoring the trust of the Government and the Prime Minister, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, so as to lead, with each passing day, the Shipyards higher, with a human-centered model and with the Greek worker at the forefront because our Shipyards are our people,” stated the President & CEO of the ONEX Group.

“The Neorion Shipyards, after a long, turbulent period, are experiencing their best moment, six years of labor peace and continuous growth,” noted Mr. G. Vroutsis, highlighting the achievement of creating hundreds of new and well-paid full-time positions for employees who for many years either remained unpaid or lived on unemployment benefits.

The Corporate Social Responsibility of the ONEX Group with its practical and strong social contribution to the local society and economy was referred to, among others, by Mr. F. Fortomas, while Mr. M. Kafouros characterized the construction and conversion of Navy ships in the “Cycladic Waters” as a top national requirement and imperative necessity, expressing his confidence in the ONEX guards and its employees.
